About Us

Bulk Haulage Leeds Ltd was established in 1982 by David and Marilyn Gale. David used to be a Transport Manager for J.A Cullingworth a haulage company based in Rothwell and Marilyn worked in a chemist in Hunslet Carr.

David and Marilyn decided start their own business together and to buy two second hand tipper vehicles and rent a yard in Halton from Chas Carroll who owned the freehold and the two vehicles.

Marilyn sourced work for the vehicles, and did the invoicing whilst David and an employee drove and maintained them.

Over the next few years the fleet was increase to seven vehicles. As the yard was empty once all the vehicles left on a morning, it was suggested that the empty yard could be utilised. Various ideas were suggested and it was decided upon a Builders Merchants.

Various materials were sourced, aggregate bays were built, concreting of the yard completed and warehouses and offices built.

Marilyn and David's Son, Paul joined the company straight from school. He spent all his school holidays and weekends helping in the yard from a young age.

Over the next few years the trade increased year after year. More plant equipment and newer delivery crane vehicles were purchased and adapted in house

The frontage of the site was owned by a car sales and repair Garage called TempleMotors. This was then aquired by Bulk and leased back to the garage until TempleMotors went into liquadation.

Bulk Haulage Leeds Ltd changed its name to Bulk Builders Merchants Ltd in 2007 or BBM for short. This was to make it clear what BBM supplies.
